Book 3 – Entwined with you – https://journeythroughawomansheart.com/2020/04/04/entwined-with-you-sylvia-day/

Gideon calls me his angel, but he’s the miracle in my life. My gorgeous, wounded warrior, so determined to slay my demons while refusing to face his own.

The vows we’d exchanged should have bound us tighter than blood and flesh. Instead they opened old wounds, exposed pain and insecurities, and lured bitter enemies out of the shadows. I felt him slipping from my grasp, my greatest fears becoming my reality, my love tested in ways I wasn’t sure I was strong enough to bear.

At the brightest time in our lives, the darkness of his past encroached and threatened everything we’d worked so hard for. We faced a terrible choice: the familiar safety of the lives we’d had before each other or the fight for a future that suddenly seemed an impossible and hopeless dream.…

After quietly eloping, Gideon and Eva have returned to their busy Manhattan lives to announce their “engagement” and plan a proper wedding. Only, wedding planning isn’t so easy when the groom is still dealing with literal nightmares from his abusive past and threats from a pesky ex. Meanwhile, Eva must be there for her best friend Cary as he prepares for fatherhood, handle her micromanaging mother and make a big decision about her career. While they knew starting a life together wouldn’t be easy, the challenges continue to mount, and Eva has to muster the strength to be there for Gideon.

Captivated By You is the fourth book in the Crossfire Series. This is a fill in book and so not worth it. It’s like a soap opera where even if you don’t read this book you will get a hang of the story from the next book. The sex scenes are like fillers and they comprise nearly 85 percent of the book. I mean in reality can someone even have that much of sex. Rough sex. Agree there is an audience who like reading the erotic genre but if you are going to add baseless sex scenes won’t it be better to just read an erotic reading from the internet.

I like the dynamic between Eva and Gideon. They are two damaged souls, who both make their fair share of mistakes, but who love each other with every fiber of their beings, more than anything else in the world, and that love gives them the strength and courage to face their fears and work together to create a healthier and stronger relationship and future.

At times their relationship is terribly unhealthy. There is an immensely disturbing scene in the book where a drunken Gideon forces a protesting Eva who is tied up to a handrail to drink alcohol during a fight so that they could have sex, and the next morning after a rough night of marathon sex Eva is all sore and she still manages to be chirpy about it. I don’t think in the real world any couple can get past such a tumultuous relationship.

This series was supposed to be a trilogy, and then as it happens with any hit soap opera or film, the publishers want to encash on the popularity so they keep stretching it.

Sylvia Day has this habit of a lot of to-ing and fro-ing in the initial chapters of all the novels, I know its necessary to rewind at times, but if people are reading the third and fourth book I feel it’s a given that we know the past situations and the characters well.

Gideon’s POV was okay. Sylvia tried doing an E.L. James, but there was something off in it. I just could not connect to it.

I know this book is a piece of fiction, but it’s not a film where a filmmaker can take the liberty and get creative. Reading is a much serious and intellectual business.

I’m four books invested in this series, so as and well complete the fifth book. (It’s only 300 plus pages) Sylvia Day is a talented, experienced writer and I’m sure she has much in store for us with the final book, One With You.  I hope I’m not disappointed.

My Ratings

Rating: 3 out of 5.
