Hurt – Nine Inch Nails / Johnny Cash

Discovered this song a month ago while reading Gabriel’s Inferno – Sylvain Reynard. The book kept saying its a Nine Inch Nails Song written by Trent Raznor, however when I googled it I got the Johnny Cash version. A little reading and I found out that Johnny Cash liked the song very much and decided to do a cover, with a bit of the lyrics change. This was his last song. However both the versions are absolutely heart breaking. The song talks about self hatred due to drugs and addiction. This song was a trigger to the emotional abuse, body shaming and pain I had to endure from toxic people. Emotional eating and emotional sex is an addiction too and at one point in my life when I was 125 kgs (275pounds) I had so much hatred for myself and the mistakes I kept making. I thought I had no value and would never get to where I wanted. Not that I have reached where I always want to be, but my life is better now (even though I’m living in the same toxic environment). I’ve got rid of almost all of the toxic people in my life……. almost …… I’ve struggled and survived and learnt to focus on ‘Me’

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liars chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I will keep myself
I would find a way

      1. Still unavailable to me. But it may be just my location. Sometimes I can’t open links that people use—and almost everyone else have no issues.
