“Vincent”, by Don McLean is about Vincent Van Gogh, the impressionist painter. The lyrics suggest his struggle with “seeing the world differently” and not getting enough recognition (during his life) as a painter. McLean refers to one of his paintings that Vincent called: Starry, Starry, Nights and how no one would give him acclaim. He suffered from mental health problems and thought he was going mad so Don McLean says in this song: “I could have told you Vincent, this world was never made for someone as beautiful as you” exonerating Van Gogh after death from the demons he fought while painting.
