High functioning anxiety

Anxiety attacks aren’t just hyperventilating and rocking back and forth. They can also be –

  • Tightness in the throat
  • Feeling detached from things
  • Numbness
  • Being unable to speak
  • Feeling like you’re going crazy
  • Headaches
  • Going completely silent
  • Appearing tense and rigid
  • Being hypersensitive to noises and disarray
  • Pressured speech
  • A sense of impending doom
  • Irritability
  • Appearing ‘zoned out’

If you tend to deal with high functional anxiety in general remember that your successes are not defined by the amount you work, you complete or the pressure you put on yourself. Remind yourself to take breaks often, have patience and practise kindness with yourself.
